I love to travel and planning for an upcoming trip can be almost as fun. Packing on the other hand, not so much. To help motivate me for my upcoming trip to New Orleans, I pulled together a list of what I will need to pack. Since the temps in NOLA are looking to be pretty hot and steamy, I’m planning on keeping things pretty simple.
I find the easiest way to pack for a trip is to stick with the basics and keep things neutral, that way it is easy to mix and match without over packing.
Bathing Suit – A bathing suit is always a must for days spent relaxing poolside with a good book and a refreshing cocktail. Pack two suits (one print and one solid) that can easily be mixed and matched to maximize your options.
Dresses – You can’t go wrong with a LBD and in the summer a LWD is your new best friend. Be sure to pack one of each in varying lengths so you have more options.
Tops – Easy breezy tops are essential for the hot temps in New Orleans in the summer. While I’ll likely stick to dresses, one or two flowy tops are always a good back-up.
Cover-up – While I am a sucker for a gauzy, white cover-up, a chambray shirt is much more practical. Pair it with your white shorts over a bathing suit and you can hit the shops, but it works equally as well over a black dress when you get chilly.
Bottoms – Denim is my go to material when traveling because it doesn’t wrinkle. Throw in a few pairs of shorts (I opt for one denim and one white) to layer over your swim suit and pair with a casual top while sightseeing. A trusty pair of black jeans is also a personal favorite for the evening.
Shoes – Space is limited while traveling and shoes take up a lot of space. Two tone and neutral shoes are a great choice because they will match everything in your suitcase!
Luggage – I am a firm believer in traveling with a carry-on and never checking bags. It makes things so much easier! Find a suitcase that meets carry-on regulations and has wheels, I promise you won’t regret it!
Purses – Since I usually travel with my suitcase as a carry-on, I can only carry one other personal item on the plane. A large tote is the perfect bag because it lets me fit everything I need during the trip and fits easily under my seat. It also doubles as a purse and beach bag when needed!
