A few weeks ago I decided it was time to stop making excuses and start taking action. You may remember my musings on trying to achieve balance across all aspects of my life? Well I’ve been eating clean and fueling my body for a year and a half, but I haven’t trained hard in what feels like forever. Sure I will go for a run or pop in a work out DVD now and again, but I haven’t put in the the time or energy to really do the work to get stronger. Until now.
Two weeks ago I took the first step and joined CrossFit Coolidge Corner – boy was I intimidated. I hadn’t been to a gym in almost six months, why did I possibly think I could step into a box and workout with the “big guys”?
After my first class I knew I had made the right decision. The work out was tough, and the coaches were motivating. I pushed myself harder than I ever had. I loved the small group atmosphere and the fact that the coach gave everyone personalized attention, scaling the workout to each person’s individual ability. I was in no way the fastest or the strongest of everyone at the box, but I was the fastest or the strongest I could be.
The next day I was sore (everywhere) but I had a hunger to go back and push myself even harder the next time. Every sore muscle meant I was getting stronger and there is no better motivation than actually feeling the results.
I’m sure this journey with have a lot of ups and downs, and I am so excited to see where it takes me. I am committed to training hard, eating clean and resting well. Are you?
