It was a whirlwind few days in New Orleans and it was a blast. Possibly one of the best trips I’ve been on in a while. I shared a lot of our trip in instagram but thought I would recap some of the highlights (aka the food) with some new pictures below. I loved everything about the French Quarter (except maybe the smell of Bourbon Street). From pastel colored houses and intricate iron work to old fashioned window shutters and flower boxes. Each street emulated a distinct beauty that made me feel as if I had been transported abroad. Even the bathrooms were pretty! Since J was in meetings during the day, I had a lot of free time. My plan to lay by the pool was squashed by the unpredictable rain, so instead I spent the days wandering in and out of the antique shops and book stores that lined the streets. Even in the rain, the streets were beautiful, perhaps even more so. I loved the romantic feeling that settled over the Quarter during the late afternoon drizzle when tourists retreated to their hotels. I bounced from coffee shop to coffee shop in search of the perfect café au lait and ate way to many beignets. Iy was definitely not a strict paleo trip, but life is all about moderation right? In true tourist fashion I hit up just about every shop on Royal Street. My favorites were those boasting wall upon wall of unique cajun cooking ingredients. I stocked up on spices and scored this little sign for our new kitchen. It’s no surprise that my favorite part of the week was the food. I had gotten a long list of recommendations from friends who had visited the city, but instead of making reservations in advance, J and I decided to wander the city and pop into places that fit our mood. I was sure nothing would live up to our first dinner at Tableau, but I was wrong. Everything we ate, from dinner at five star restaurants to po’boys at the little dive bar down the street, was impeccable.
We even ended up visiting Kingfish (above) twice, because it was just that good!
Muriel’s, in Jackson Square, was out last meal in New Orleans and it was the perfect way to end the trip! I highly recommend the Wood Grilled Tournedos of Beef, it was life changing. While I am happy to be home with Charlie snuggled on my lap, I can’t wait to go back. J and I are already planning our next trip!
