Whether the sun is shinning or there is a fresh blanket of snow on the ground, at least once a week I make a trip to Trader Joe’s. Then I head straight to the back, where they keep the good stuff. That’s when it hits me, the aroma of fresh cut flowers. It’s like a slow motion scene in a romantic comedy as I skip past the wall of wine and craft beer straight toward the floral boutiques and potted plants. I carefully scan all of the choices. Sometimes making the right decision can be brutal, especially when they bust out the peonies and ranunculus, other times it’s as though the sunflowers are waiting just for me.
Fresh cut flowers are a little something special that I like to put out in the house because they make me smile. In the winter, they are a little ray of sunshine filling me with hope that spring isn’t too far off. In the spring and summer months a fresh cut flower is a great way to bring a little of the outdoors in. Plus, a fun vase always makes a great statement.
Lately, I’ve been using this DIY mason jar vase as a centerpiece on the kitchen table. Its adorable and super simple to recreate, just follow the steps below.
You will need:
- Mason jar (I reused a tomato sauce jar)
- Acrylic paint
- Mod Podge
- Brush
Directions:
- Clean the mason jar thoroughly and let dry completely
- Paint a base coat of acrylic paint on to the outside of mason jar (in the color of your choice)
- Let the paint dry completely and then add another coat
- Repeat 2-3 time, or until the jar is well coated
- Once the paint has dried completely, lightly coat the outside with Mod Podge to seal
- Let the Mod Podge dry completely
- Fill the vase with water and fresh cut flowers
