Last week I shared a DIY Beaded Bracelet with you all that I made at my favorite new shop in Brookline, The Pear Tree! This week I wanted to share another jewelry tutorial, this time for a DIY Delicate Necklace. I’m sure you’ve seen similar necklaces in boutiques and on Etsy, but with this DIY you can customize the necklace to be any size and color you want, not to mention you will probably save a little money.
Best of all if you visit your local bead shop, like I did, you can use their tools and ask for advice if you hit a snag!
For this DIY I chose a gold chain and very small, sparkly, pink beads. How would you customize this delicate DIY to fit your personality?
You will need:
- Chain (about 16 inches in the style and color of your choice, to make a longer necklace you will want more chain in a ticker style)
- Beads (in the size and color of your choice, use larger beads for a bolder piece or small beads for a delicate piece)
- Clasp and ring (that match the color of your chain)
- Wire (about 4 inches, longer depending on the number and size of beads, in the same color as your chain)
- Pliers
- Wire cutters
Directions:
1. Loop the wire through one end of the chain and form a circle with the wire, leaving about three inches of wire on one end.
2. Wrap the shorter end of the wire tightly around itself three times.
3. Trip the end of the short wire so that nothing is sticking out.
4. Begin to add the beads to the leftover wire.
5. Once all desired beads are added, loop the remaining wire through the other end of the chain, form a circle with the wire and repeat steps two and three.
6. Measure the necklace to find the exact center of the chain and cut it in half.
7. Attach the clasp and ring to opposite ends of the chain, using the left over wire if needed.
8. Make sure all connections are tightly secured and all wire is trimmed
9. Layer your necklace with others or wear it alone!
