Okay, its confession time. I’ve had some major #PaleoFails over the past few weeks.
At first it was just a handful of corn chips with my turkey tacos or a sprinkle of cheese of my spicy chili. But recently my affair with non-Paleo foods has become more than just a fling. Without getting into all of the messy details, let’s just say I had a major slice of cheesecake for dessert on Thanksgiving and all that I left on my plate was the gram cracker crust– that being said I was proud of myself that I didn’t touch that gluten filled, golden brown, toasted crust, it took some major self restraint.
While my Paleo lifestyle has taken a little hit as of late, I think it’s important to remember the following:
a. I have maintained a a strict gluten free lifestyle. While I may still be learning how to bake and cook Paleo, I have come to master the gluten free world– do I sound too full of myself? Sorry about that, but I am really proud of how far my skills in gf baking and cooking have come in a year!
b. You only live once. I know, I know Drake coined the whole YOLO thing, but it’s true. I know that it is important to put good things into your body and eat healthy foods, but I believe it is equally as important to realize that sometimes it’s okay to indulge. As long as you are conscious of the choices you make and how they affect your body, its only natural to treat yourself once in a while. After all, this is a lifestyle change, not a diet. (For example, I plan to have a scoop of coconut milk ice cream and a glass of red wine on Friday because it’s my birthday day– I don’t plan on eating an entire cake and drinking pina coladas all night!)
So with all of this in mind, I am making a vow to get back in line with my Paleo ways. I’m going to skip the dairy, add an extra scoop of veggies, hit the gym and push myself to be the best Cave Girl I can be!
…And to start off the new year with a clean plate — at least I make myself laugh– I’m kicking around the idea of doing the Whole 30 come January, I’ll keep you posted!
