By now I’m sure you’ve seen those commercials for dog food that tout “[Fill in the black] is part of the family, so I want to feed him like family.” Well congratulations advertisers, you now have me reading the ingredients of not only my dog’s food, but his treats as well.
I want the best for Charlie, because (like the commercial says) he is part of my family. That’s what got me thinking. J and I are committed to a primal diet of good, clean foods that are not prepossessed. So there must be a better option to the processed treats that we have been buying for Charlie.
So instead of buying prepackaged dog treats, we have started supporting local dog bakeries around the city and feeding Charlie healthy treats that are also part of a healthy human diet.
As you can tell from the picture above, Charlie loves a good green bean. I’m not sure if it’s the texture or size but he has a ball biting off little pieces of this healthy green treat! The best part about these healthy treats is that they are things we usually keep in the house anyway and consume as part of our diet.
Other healthy options include:
- Carrot slices
- Lean, cooked meat
- Melon chunks
- Pear slices
- Popcorn (without butter or oil)
