Not too long ago I wrote a post about the importance of keeping healthy snacks on hand when trying to maintain a paleo lifestyle. I explained that eating paleo is always easier when you have a healthy option to turn to, and I still believe this 100%.
Unfortunately sometimes it can be hard to grab a healthy snack on the go or eat the right sized portion when you are home with an entire jar of almond butter in front of you. So today I thought we would discuss how to achieve smartly sized snacking, perfect for on the go and portion control.
I find that the best way to do this is by using snack bags and plastic containers to divide up your snacks into individual servings. The key is to make your snacks easy to grab and go, while maintaining portion size. Instead of mixing your nuts and raisins in a big bag, put about a handful of nuts in small plastic containers that you can throw in your bag for work.
Once you divide up your snacks, keep then in an easy to reach spot so that you see them every time you open the cabinet or fridge. By keeping these snacks easy to see and reach, you will be less tempted to go searching for those paleo cookies. (Remember, if you have kids to keep these healthy snacks where they can easily reach them!)
For the fridge:
We like to keep an abundance of fruits and veggies in the fridge for the week. (Unfortunately this picture was taken on a Thursday so we were almost out for the week!) Other ideas include pepper slices and celery sticks–you can even divide up your almond butter into small containers!
For the pantry:
We like to keep a variety of nuts and dried fruit in the pantry. While we eat these less often than fresh fruits and veggies, dividing them into smaller portions right away keeps me from eating too many.
